August was a steady month for business updates. Double the amount of businesses opened than closed this month, and we also saw a few businesses relocate to new locations.

The Buzz has put together a list of businesses that have opened, closed, or relocated in the last month. We also included a list of businesses that plan to open soon in the Fox Valley.

    Four businesses opened

Several chains have opened up new locations in the Fox Valley in the past month

Scooter's Coffee , at 3626 W. College Ave., opened its second Appleton location on Aug. 2.

Spirit Halloween , 4651 W. Michaels Drive, in Grand Chute, opened at the end of August. The seasonal retailor will remain open through the end of the Halloween season.

Circle K opened two new locations in the Valley: 1935 E. Calumet St., in Appleton, and 1492 Appleton Road, in Menasha. Both locations had ribbon cutting ceremonies on Aug. 27.

One business closed and another is on its way out

One small business has closed this past month, and one corporate chain is in the midst of a sale in preparation for their upcoming closure.

Big Lots at 699 S. Green Bay Road, in Neenah, is planning to close after less than a year in business. Although it hasn't been announced when the store will be closing, a closing banner was displayed on the building on Aug. 1, with a continued storewide sale that's now up to 30% off.

Dairyland Brewpub , 1216 E. Wisconsin Ave., in Appleton, permanently closed following a two-month hiatus. The business announced on its Facebook page on June 14 that it would be closed for a family vacation, but later announced the closure of the business on Aug. 10 . The building is now for sale.

    Two businesses relocated

There were a few small businesses that moved locations throughout the month to more ideal spots for their storefronts.

Fox Valley Birkenstock / Vagabond Shoes , now at 767 N. Casaloma Drive, in Grand Chute, moved from its former location at 4760 W. Integrity Way. The small business shoe store was at its former location for 18 years, the current owner Susan Jordan said they outgrew the space. The new location is about double the size.

Alyssa & Anna Fine Jewelry , now at 135 E. College Ave., in Appleton, moved from their previous Appleton location at 161 S. Riverheath Way, Suite 2900. The business opened at its new location on Aug. 10 with a grand opening celebration. The owner, Alyssa Jones, said on the business Facebook page how the new shop is in her dream location.

What's happening soon? Five businesses incoming and one relocating

A handful of businesses are also expected to open in the Valley soon including fast-food chains, retailors, and local businesses.

Festival Foods will be opening a new location at 800 East Maes Ave., in Kimberly , in the former Shopko space. The location's opening date is set for Sept. 20.

Total Wine & More , a wine retailor chain, plans to open near the end of September in the former Bed, Bath, and Beyond at 4721 W. Grande Market Drive, in Grand Chute. The business' website advertises a grand opening that'll feature samplings during opening weekend.

Dave's Hot Chicken will be opening in Grand Chute at 4301 W. Wisconsin Ave., adjacent to Bank First. The fast-food chicken joint will be open sometime between April and June next year.

Cousins Subs is planning to open on Sept. 16. The new location will be at 3630 W. College Ave., in Appleton.

The Tardigrade's Bookshelf , a small business book bar, will be opening this fall at 501 N. Richmond St., in Appleton, although no opening date has been set yet.

Hoersch Home Appliances , currently at 218 N. Division St., in Appleton, are in the process of relocating to 1121 W. Northland Ave. across from Festival Foods in Appleton. The new location is expected to finish construction and open by mid-October.
