APPLETON - The Jerk Joint , 1619 W. College Ave., has reopened its doors again after temporarily closing due to a small fire.

In March, the Trinidadian cuisine restaurant closed for repairs after a meat smoker in the restaurant malfunctioned, resulting in a fire that caused smoke damage to parts of the kitchen and dining room.

Initially, owner Roderick Goodwin anticipated the restaurant would be closed for about three months, as it also underwent a small renovation to the dining area.

On Thursday, The Jerk Joint re-opened with a new menu and a revamped dining room.

The new menu comes with a few new additions, including: a vegan Caribbean bowl, made with potatoes and chickpeas; the Island Delight combo, which comes with oxtail, curry goat and curry shrimp; and more sides, like collard greens and macaroni and cheese.

Goodwin said the menu was also re-formatted in a way that makes more sense for customers and the restaurant.

In addition to the new menu, the dining area is decorated with colorful pictures of women dressed for Caribbean Carnival, a festival which occurs in February. The restaurant also added an area for window seating.

More information can be found on the restaurant's Facebook page.
