The Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department, in conjunction with the Smith County and Simpson County Sheriff’s Departments, has organized a disaster relief drive for Hurricane Helene victims.

Supplies can be dropped off at the Jefferson Davis County Justice Complex at 15 Industrial Park Lane in Prentiss.

The complex is located adjacent to the Prentiss Mini Market and across from the old Country Fisherman. Donations will be accepted until Friday at 5 p.m.

FEMA has delivered millions of bottles of water to the area, so water is not needed.

No furniture or clothes will be accepted.

Cash donations are welcomed, but no gift cards as there will be no way for the victims to use a gift card.

“We hope the community will join in this effort to help the victims of Hurricane Helene,” said Jefferson Davis County Chief Deputy Frank Riley.

“We know all too well how it feels, and it could be us at any time,” he said.

Riley will be part of the convoy transporting the supplies to North Carolina, where residents are stranded by washed-out roads and have no power or cell service.

Helene’s death toll has reached over 130.

The full list of acceptable items includes:

    •All forms of cleaning supplies.

    •Non-perishable food items and snacks.

    •Powdered Gatorade.

•Paper plates, paper towels, toilet tissue and large trash bags.

•Baby diapers, wipes and baby food.

•Adult diapers and feminine hygiene products

•Mens and womens body wash, shampoo and deodorant

    •Toothpaste and toothbrush.

    •Small first aid kids.

    •Insect repellent.

Donations can also be dropped off at Simpson General Hospital Medical Clinic in Mendenhall and the Raleigh Multipurpose Building.
