Firefighters from Bassfield Volunteer Fire Department, Prentiss Fire Department and Good Hope Volunteer Fire Department are currently battling a blaze in Bassfield.

An abandoned building on Highway 42 across from the Pure Gas Station went up in flames just before midnight.

The building  housed a feed store and co-op in the past, but has been empty for decades. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

Please avoid the area for the next several hours as officers from the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department and the Prentiss Police Department have that portion of the highway closed to traffic.
