The Napa City Council has appointed Lindsay Owen to a vacant seat on the city’s planning commission, the body tasked with reviewing development proposals in the city, among other duties.

Owen will take up the seat formerly held by Bob Massaro, a longtime Napa resident who died in May. She will serve both the remainder of his two-year, which ends at the end of 2024, and the subsequent term that will run to 2026.

There were six candidates who applied for the position. The council voted to appoint Owen at a meeting Aug. 6, after Owen received support from council members Liz Alessio, Mary Luros and Beth Painter.

Owen, a Napa resident for seven years, is the owner and principal designer of the Lindsay Owen Design firm, which offers full-service design for residential and commercial projects.

“This opportunity to contribute my skills to the Napa community is a calling I am committed to for the long term,” Owen said at the meeting.

Several council members thanked all the applicants for applying. Alessio noted a seat currently held by artist Gordon Huether will be open at the end of this year and she encouraged applicants to reapply.

“Each and every one of you would add so much to our planning commission,” Alessio said.
