I don’t even know if I could’ve imagined a better Friday night to start the playoffs.

There were three! walk-off wins in baseball setting the stage for a wild June run. In the preliminary, single-elimination round, No. 7 Narragansett topped No. 10 Tiverton, 2-1, at Sprague Field. East Providence survived Chariho’s upset bid in a 1-0 ball game in the 5 vs. 12 matchup. And sixth-seeded, St. Raphael walked-off against North Providence, 4-3.

All three games were in baseball’s second division and to sweeten the pot, No. 5 Exeter-West Greenwich finished with a 2-1 win vs. No. 12 Hope. It wasn’t a walk-off but sign me up for one-run games. That’s what the playoffs are about.

Softball only had four games on Friday night, but got into the craziness as No. 6 East Greenwich finished with a 1-0 win vs. No. 11 North Kingstown. The lone run? Well, that came from Ava Fairbanks’ inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the first. She also picked up the win going six innings for the Avengers.

Our entire recap from Friday night, all 2,659 words, are linked below.

The GOAT, Bill Koch, was out at Portsmouth to see the Patriots down Moses Brown baseball in D-I. The loss ends the Quakers’ season, you’ll have to see how Portsmouth advanced to the double-elimination portion.

Enjoy the long weekend, we’ll be back on Tuesday with more high school playoffs and I can’t wait.
