Why completion of a RI-based wind farm is being delayed

    By Will Richmond, Providence Journal,

Good morning, I'm Will Richmond at The Providence Journal and this is the Daily Briefing.

There are a lot of opinions about wind farms these days.

As a turbine off Martha's Vineyard crumbling into the ocean has added fuel to opponents it appears a Rhode Island-based project is facing its own problems. However, it has nothing to do with the turbines themselves.

The Journal's Alex Kuffner has the latest on Revolution Wind's plans and why they are pushing back the planned operating date for its 65-turbine offshore wind farm along with updates on the offshore construction process. Alex also explains why moving forward with the building of these farms is considered important in Rhode Island.

    • Democratic vice president candidate Tim Walz made a stop in Newport Thursday, speaking for 17 minutes and bringing in nearly a quarter of a million dollars. The Journal's Patrick Anderson reports on the scene at Salve Regina University and what Walz had to say.

    • Todd J. Barry, the Cranston carpenter who confessed to the 1989 bludgeoning murder of Victoria E. Cushman, which led to the release of former Warwick police detective Jeffrey Scott Hornoff, was released from prison this week.

The Journal's Katie Mulvaney reports on why Barry was released ahead of schedule.

    • Providence tackle store owner Dave Henault cast a wide net in looking for a kidney donor but the solution was nearby all the time. The Journal's Jack Perry has the heartwarming tale.

    • A South Kingstown village mentioned in a Gordon Lightfoot song now holds a relaxing nature preserve that offers glimpses of RI's early mill history. Take a trip to Biscuit City with Journal contributor John Kostrzewa and plan a hike for this weekend.
