The results are in … and they are outstanding.

We knew Rhode Island’s communities cared about their high school football . But with 124,776 votes casted in the fans’ choice for preseason player of the year, you all blew past our expectations and really showed your support.

The weeklong poll that boasted one football player from every school in the state was a smashing hit as Ponaganset’s Kaleb Rock brought home the title of preseason player of the year. Rock generated 43,116 votes to snag bragging rights to start the season.

The senior finished with 34.55% of the overall voting and pulled away from Griffin Kleinknecht in the closing days of the polling. Kleinknecht, of Middletown, finished second with a whopping 35,968 votes. The two were neck-and-neck with Smithfield’s Ralph Farrar trailing in third with 11,001 votes.
