We are officially into October which means the high school football season is about to get spooky.

Soon enough playoff games will be here with contenders and pretenders to be decided in the coming weeks. Think your favorite team will be playing deep into November? Now is the time to secure your spot in those very playoffs.

The Portsmouth-Westerly game I covered last Friday will be tough to top as the best regular season game I’ll cover this season. The Patriots’ game-winning drive was electric in a game that had it all.

Eric Rueb posted his Top 20 teams in the state on Tuesday and the Patriots (No. 10) just edged the Bulldogs (No. 11), you’ll have to check out where everybody else is ranked.

This Friday boasts a bunch of great matchups with Hendricken hosting La Salle and South Kingstown heading to West Warwick. Cumberland-Cranston West and Central-North Kingstown are also in action on Friday and we’ll have writeups, as always, for the state’s slate. If you don’t see a roundup from your game, the home coach likely didn’t submit results.

We’ll also have our expert picks, which I hold a 3-game lead in, up this week.

The Providence Journal has seen every football team this year, but just a small handful. We are aiming to see every team in the state, and through three weeks, we’re on that pace.

    Thank you for following along!
