Hollandaze food truck opens in beergarden

Brandon Lang recommends pairing a beer with breakfast food. His new food truck Hollandaze is located in the beergarden, and features all-day breakfast service in a made-from-scratch kitchen.

Lang opened Hollandaze on Aug. 15. He has a long past of working in food, both in Eugene and his home state of Missouri, but this is his first time owning his own restaurant. He chose to focus his menu on breakfast because it’s something comforting and close to his heart.

Breakfast is something that Lang is passionate about doing correctly. “So many people are eating gravy out of cans, or biscuits out of jugs, or hollandaise out of powder,” he said. “I know it’s ambitious for a food truck, but I want go from scratch, with integrity and passion.”

The menu at Hollandaze includes eggs benedict and buttermilk biscuits and gravy. For those who struggle to picture their breakfast favorites with a beer, Lang has recommendations for you. “I’m actually a certified Brewers Association member,” he said.

“I would say biscuits and gravy go with a porter or stout, and the eggs benedict with something lighter like a kolsch or a hefeweizen, to get that honey maltiness in there,” Lang said.

    Hollandaze is open 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, 3–10 p.m. Friday, and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. It is located on the patio of beergarden at 777 W 6th Avenue.

The Chicken Shanty, a chain restaurant in Oregon, recently opened a location in downtown Eugene. Located at 51 W Broadway across from Cowfish, the new restaurant is the perfect spot for late-night eats after a few drinks at the bar.

The Chicken Shanty buys all of its produce and poultry in Oregon. The beers on tap are all Oregon-based as well, according to location owners Victor Purpuree and Tim Emery.

The inside of the restaurant has an old-school feel, with brick walls, wood beams on the ceiling, and a long wooden bar. There is a stage space where Purpuree and Emery plan on hosting DJs, trivia, and bingo weekly.

Although it might seem like a late-night-only joint, The Chicken Shanty is also open for lunch. Aug. 19 was its first day opening for a lunch rush, and many local business people stopped in for a quick meal.

The menu at The Chicken Shanty has various types of craft chicken, including sandwiches, wraps, tenders, and wings. They also offer a variety of sauces, lemonades, and beers on tap.
