    Creswell soccer player wins Register-Guard boys Athlete of the Week

    Creswell soccer player Matthew Jenkins is the winner of the Eugene-area high school boys Athlete of the Week, as voted by readers of The Register-Guard.

    The junior forward/midfielder scored five goals combined in Creswell's 4-1 over Western Christian and 3-0 win against Central Linn.

    Jenkins received 48.33% of the reader poll votes. North Eugene football player Grady Kik-Down was second (19.87%).

    Here are this week's other nominees.

    Josiah Corsini, North Eugene football

    The sophomore had the game-winning pick-six in the third quarter to secure North Eugene a 28-21 win over Roseburg.

    Mackai Adams, Willamette football

    The senior caught two touchdowns, one from running back Maveryck Akers on a trick play, and took a 60-plus yard pick-six to the house to give Willamette a 49-14 win over Springfield.

    Lukas Babbitt, Churchill football

    The junior caught a 58-yard touchdown pass and a two-point conversion to give Churchill a 32-13 upset win over Thurston.

    Grady Kik-Down, North Eugene football

    The senior recovered a fumble, had an interception and rushed for a touchdown to help North Eugene to a 28-21 win over Roseburg.
