Typically the first 20 minutes of Oregon's practices on Tuesday and Wednesday are open to the media. But coach Dan Lanning closed practices entirely this week, making it difficult to track who was suited up for the Ducks .
Thus, the status of players like tight end Terrance Ferguson (appendectomy), defensive end Jordan B. Burch (knee), offensive guard Matthew Bedford (knee), etc., won't be known officially until two hours before Saturday's 12:30 p.m. kickoff for No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 21 Illinois at Autzen Stadium, when the Big Ten Conference releases the availability report for both teams.
When asked Monday for an update on Ferguson, Bedford and Burch, Lanning said he'll wait and see "how the week goes, to see where those guys are at and if they're available for us this weekend."
Until then, here is an unofficial list of players who have known injuries or who were listed on the Big Ten Conference availability report for Oregon's game against Purdue.
Oregon football injury report ahead of game vs. No. 21 Illinois
Matthew Bedford — The offensive lineman has been limited this season to just a few snaps at the end of the Oregon State game in week three.
Gary Bryant Jr. — The wide receiver and 12-game starter last season has yet to play this season. He was at practice for the first time in over a month during the Ducks ' prep for Purdue, but his availability for Saturday's game against Illinois is still unknown.
Jordan Burch — The senior defensive end has missed the last two games after injuring his knee in practice days before the Ohio State game.
Terrance Ferguson — Is the star tight end recovered from his appendectomy, which forced him to miss last week's Purdue game? We'll find out Saturday.
Dakoda Fields — The freshman defensive back has been out with a knee injury and there is no timetable for his return, Lanning said Aug. 28.
Jahlil Florence — The nine-game starter at cornerback last season continues to work his way back from a knee injury that occurred last November against Arizona State. He has been listed as out for every game so far this season, but has been participating at practice in recent weeks.
"Once Jahlil is ready, we'll be able to utilize him," Lanning said during the Ducks' bye week in September. "But right now he's not at that point yet."
My'Keil Gardner — The redshirt freshman, who was expected to provide depth along the defensive line this fall, is out for an extended period with an undisclosed injury.
“We’re anxious to get him back, but it won’t be something that happens overnight," Lanning said in the days before Oregon's season-opener against Idaho. "He’s going to be down for a little bit.”
Zach Grisham — The redshirt sophomore defensive back hasn't played since the Boise State game on Sept. 7. He's been officially listed as out the last four games with no timetable given for his return.
Traeshon Holden — The senior starting wide receiver made the trip to Purdue and was in uniform but never left the sideline on Friday, as he dealt with the fallout from his ejection in the Ohio State game for spitting on a Buckeyes ' player. Lanning said Wednesday that Holden would be available against the Illini.
Dave Iuli — The veteran reserve guard is working his way back from a foot injury suffered in the spring. Iuli has been listed as out for the first seven games of the season but has been at practice.
Kyler Kasper — The sophomore receiver has missed the last three games with an undisclosed injury and will likely be out for an extended period.
"I don't know the timeline right now," Lanning said Monday. "It might be hard to see him back this year but I won't put limitations on him and his ability to get back."
Khamari Terrell — The junior defensive back was listed as out against Purdue.
