CANTON − The case against a 27-year-old Canton woman accused of killing and eating a cat on Friday night will be sent to the Stark County grand jury.

Canton police arrested Allexis T. Ferrell at 10:45 p.m. Friday night in the 1100 block of 13th Street SE. She is accused of killing a cat by "stomping its head" and then eating it in a residential housing complex. Multiple people saw the incident.

Ferrell was charged with prohibitions concerning companion animals, a fifth-degree felony, and misdemeanor charges of injuring animals and disorderly conduct by reason of intoxication.

Canton Municipal Judge Kristen D. Guardado set her bond at $100,000 during an arraignment on Monday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 26.

The defendant remained in jail on Monday afternoon.

Ferrell is represented by the Stark County Public Defender. The office does not comment on clients' cases.

The Stark County Humane Society collected the cat as evidence.

Police received a video of the incident.
