PERRY TWP. ‒ The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a minibike crash that killed a 34-year-old Canton area man.

According to a news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol:

Dustin L. Brownfield, 34, was operating a 2023 non-registered minibike north on Beaver Place around 3:45 a.m. Sunday.

Corey A. Mitchell, 39, of Massillon, was driving a 2012 silver Ford Edge east on Southway Street.

"The minibike was operating without any lights activated and failed to yield from a posted stop sign to the Ford Edge. The minibike was struck by the Ford edge ejecting the driver, Mr. Brownfield, off the mini bike onto the north side of Southway Street."

Brownfield, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mitchell was not injured.

Perry Township Fire, Police and EMS assisted at the scene.

    The crash remains under investigation.

It was the second fatal motorcycle crash in the township in less than a week. Motorcyclist Timothy Carpenter, 37, of Canton, was killed in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday night at the intersection of Tuscarawas Street West and Bordner Avenue.
