    HBO 'Gilded Age' star and Mount Union alum Carrie Coon coming to Canton and Massillon

    CANTON − A television star with connections to Stark County is coming to the Canton Palace Theatre for a special event.

    Award-winning actress Carrie Coon of the hit HBO series "The Gilded Age" will appear on Sept. 8 at the Palace Theatre . Coon is a Northeast Ohio native and graduate the University of Mount Union in Alliance.

    The Palace Theatre and Massillon Museum are jointly presenting the exclusive event at 1 p.m. as an extension of the "Gilding Northeast Ohio: Fashion & Fortune 1870–1900" exhibition at the museum.

    The exhibit features fashions and artifacts from the period. Running through Oct. 13, the exhibit also has a dress from "The Gilded Age" from Coon.

    There will be a special viewing of an episode of the " The Gilded Age " at the Palace Theatre, followed by a question and answer session with Coon, as well as the lead costumer Kasia Walicka-Maimone. The event will be moderated by "Gilding Northeast Ohio" exhibition guest curator Brian Centrone.

    Admission is free but tickets must be reserved at https://cantonpalacetheatre.org/ .

    The event will offer attendees "a rare opportunity to engage directly with Coon, who is known for her versatile performances in film, television and theater," a Palace Theatre news release said.

    "We are thrilled to partner with the Massillon Museum to host Carrie Coon, a talent who has brought so much depth to her roles in 'The Gilded Age' and beyond," said Georgia Paxos, executive director of the Palace Theatre. "This event will not only celebrate her achievements but also provide our community with an enriching cultural experience."

    Coon is the sister-in-law of Alexandra Nicholis Coon, executive director of the Massillon Museum.

    There also will be ticketed event 7-9 p.m. on Sept. 7 featuring Coon at the Massillon Museum, 121 Lincoln Way E.

    The museum will present an evening with Coon, where guests will enjoy access to the " Gilding Northeast Ohio" exhibition and all museum galleries. Hors d'oeuvres and one adult beverage will be included in the ticket price.

    Reservations for the event cost $60 per person and are limited ($50 per Massillon Museum member) and available at MassMu.org/Tickets or by calling 330-833-4061. Proceeds will benefit the Massillon Museum Building Endowment.

    Born and raised in Copley, Coon received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Mount Union and her master of fine arts in acting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She lives in New York with her husband and creative collaborator, Tracy Letts.

    "The Gilded Age" series portrays late 19th-century American society. Coon stars in the show as Bertha Russell. The series has two seasons, and a third will premiere sometime in 2025.

    Coon's other television and film work includes a role in the 2014 movie, "Gone Girl." She also will appear in season three of HBO's Emmy-winning series, "The White Lotus," scheduled for release in 2025.

    Other acting work includes the FX anthology series "Fargo" and HBO's "The Leftovers," for which she won a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.

    The Palace Theatre event featuring Coon is expected to draw attendees from across Northeast Ohio and beyond, Paxos said.

    "The collaboration with the Massillon Museum underscores both institutions' commitment to bringing high-quality arts and cultural programming to the region," the release added.
