CANTON ‒ It takes more than a village to run an election.

So, the Stark County Board of Elections has placed a "help wanted" sign before all of the county's registered voters. Not only for poll workers — roughly 1,200, who almost always are in short supply — but for another 100-plus people needed during the four to six weeks ahead of Election Day on Nov. 5.

A wide variety of temporary, but potentially full-time positions, need filled for this fall's general election, said Board of Elections Director Jeff Matthews.

In case you hadn't heard, there's a presidential race this year, along with a slew of other federal, state and local contests, to go along with an opportunity to weigh in on state and local issues.

    Available spots include:

    • Warehouse workers, who organize and prepare supplies for eventual delivery to polling locations.
    • Absentee ballot employees to prepare ballots for and process ballots received by those who vote by mail.
    • Early voting staff to check in and assist voters at the Early Voting Center inside the Board complex — the center opens 28 days prior to Election Day.
    • Nursing home employees, who work in bipartisan teams to assist voters confined to nursing homes.

The pay rate is $14 per hour.

Although the board has 18 full-time employees, the extra assistance is needed during election season.

To apply for a position, call the Board of Elections at 330-451-8683, or apply online at https://starkcountyoh.rja.revize.com/forms/5326 .
