Your fall wardrobe may be safe to keep in your closet for a little longer this year.

As school returns to session, it's almost time for the summer season to bid farewell. There are just a few weeks remaining until the first day of fall, meaning cooler temperatures, the return of outer layers and possibly some snow for Ohio. However, the departure of the warmer weather may come later than usual.

The National Weather Service is predicting slightly above average temperatures from September to November in Ohio. There's currently a predicted a 40% to 50% chance that temperatures will lean above average in most of the state, but chances increase slightly in the upper northeast.

Probability looks to decrease as the season progresses, as the outlook of above average temperatures for October to November in most of Ohio is hanging around 33% to 40%.

When does fall begin in Ohio?

The first day of the fall season is Sunday, Sept. 22. The beginning of fall will be marked by the autumnal equinox , which is forecast to occur at 8:44 a.m. on that day.

When will the weather cool down?

In Stark County, temperatures will peak in the low 70s and high 60s just days after the start of the season, according to AccuWeather. In the following weeks, high temperatures will fluctuate in this range, as the forecast does not dip below 60 degrees until mid-October.

    When does fall end?

The last day of fall will be Dec. 20, as the winter season will begin with the winter equinox on Dec. 21.
