    LETTERS: Some Americans have lost sight of former presidents' wisdom

    The Repository published the following quotes several years ago, but they were never more important to note than now.

    President Theodore Roosevelt said, "Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president or any other public official, save exactly to the degree in which he himself stands by the country . . . in either event, it is unpatriotic not to tell the truth, whether about the president or anyone else."

    President Dwight Eisenhower said, "If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination that is right and moral, then it is not a political party, it is merely a conspiracy to seize power."

    All the divisiveness we see today is because some of our citizens have lost sight of these important words from our former presidents. Wake up, America.
