    Stark County high school football Week 7 recaps: Northwest, Central Catholic, Green among winners

    Week 7 of the high school football season for Stark County-area teams included an overtime thriller and some big individual performances. Here’s a look at Friday night’s highlights, including Northwest winning in OT on the road on a walk-off 2-point conversion play and Manchester's Phil Partin eclipsing 300 yards rushing.

    Northwest football wins on 2-point conversion in overtime

    Northwest 46, Orrville 45, OT

    ORRVILLE — Carsen Nickey’s sliding 2-point conversion catch from Chase Badger in overtime helped Northwest survive a PAC-7 battle with Orrville.

    The Red Riders scored first in overtime. Badger responded with a touchdown run and the winning conversion pass.

    Badger threw four touchdown passes and ran for two TDs. Logan Allman had three touchdown catches for Northwest, including an 80-yarder in the fourth quarter to put his team ahead 38-31. Those two also combined for a 76-yard TD pass in the first quarter.

    Nickey’s walk-off 2-point conversion catch was the last of several big plays he made throughout the night. He set up a Northwest field goal with a long kickoff return and set up TDs with an interception and a 50-plus-yard catch.

    Northwest (6-1, 3-1) remains a game behind Manchester in the PAC-7 title chase.

    Evan Reed helps lead Green football in Federal League shutout

    Green 35, GlenOak 0

    PLAIN TWP. — Evan Reed ran for 97 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries as Green cruised to a Federal League win at GlenOak.

    Anthony McMichael rushed for 87 yards and a TD on 18 carries and had two of the Bulldogs' four interceptions on defense. QB Tyson Hunka added 51 yards and a TD on 12 carries. Green (5-2, 3-1) totaled 239 yards on the ground as a team.

    Hunka was 8-of-16 passing for 106 yards and an interception. Antonio Martin caught two passes for 59 yards and had an interception on defense.

    Anthony Fortunato also had an interception for Green and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown.

    GlenOak (0-7, 0-4) finished with six first downs and 117 yards of offense in getting shut out for the fourth time this season.

    Anthony Ruggles' field goals help Austintown Fitch football hold off Perry

    Fitch 20, Perry 15

    AUSTINTOWN —  Caelob Hundley ran for 72 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries but the Panthers fell on the road for their third straight loss.

    Jonathan Lemon added 98 yards on 17 carries for Perry (3-4).

    Austin Mattox was 5-of-13 passing for 66 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. His 17-yard TD pass to Evan Laubacher cut Perry's deficit to 20-15 with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter.

    Brock Huggins kicked a 47-yard field goal early in the second quarter to put Perry up 9-7. Fitch's Anthony Ruggles answered with a 50-yard field goal to put the Falcons (6-1) back in the lead three minutes later.

    Ruggles added a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that had Fitch up 20-9.

    Conner Thomas powers Canton Central Catholic football to road win

    Central Catholic 23, Mogadore 14

    MOGADORE — Conner Thomas ran for two touchdowns and totaled 142 yards from scrimmage as the Crusaders won for the third time in four games.

    Thomas rushed for 66 yards on 20 carries and caught four passes for 76 yards. Louis DiRuzza was 12-of-14 passing for 161 yards, one TD and no interceptions for Central (3-4). Preston Scott caught a 21-yard TD pass from DiRuzza.

    Luke Spittler rushed for 65 yards on 13 carries as the Crusaders outgained Mogadore (2-5) 333 yards to 149.

    Louisville football unable to hold lead on the road

    Canfield 23, Louisville 16

    CANFIELD — The Cardinal rallied from down 14-3 in the third quarter to beat the Leopards.

    After an Enzo Cocca 41-yard TD run brought the Cardinals (3-4) to within 14-9 late in the third, they took the lead 17-14 early in the fourth when Adam Christy returned a fumble 34 yards for a touchdown and Cocca ran for the 2-point conversion.

    The Leopards (3-4) took their first lead of the night when Cooper Rice blocked a field goal attempt and Jacob Paumier returned it 66 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Louisville added to its lead in the third when Tate Aljancic threw a 21-yard TD pass to Quin Burick.

    Louisville finished with only six first downs and 146 yards of offense. Aljancic was 11-of-21 passing for 121 yards, the one TD and no interceptions.

    Charley Levak, Joey Kopec key CVCA football to home win

    CVCA 38, Fairless 7

    CUYAHOGA FALLS — Charley Levak threw for 155 yards and two touchdowns to help lead CVCA past Fairless in a non-league game.

    The Royals opened up a 38-0 lead before Peter Killy scored the Falcons’ only touchdown on a 7-yard run in the fourth quarter.

    Killy returned to action after being out with a concussion. He rushed for 131 yards on 15 carries.

    Joey Kopec ran for 101 yards on 12 carries for CVCA.

    Phil Partin runs wild for unbeaten Manchester football

    Manchester 46, Tuslaw 14

    TUSCARAWAS TWP. — Phil Partin carried the load in another Manchester win.

    Partin rushed for 320 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Panthers past Tuslaw in a PAC-7 matchup. Manchester improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the league.

    Manchester’s Yadin Sharp also threw a touchdown pass to Jake Livingston and Evan Kusmits added a rushing TD.

    Jared Witherow leads way in Malvern football IVC North road win

    Malvern 32, Buckeye Trail 14

    LORE CITY —  Jared Witherow threw two touchdown passes for Malvern (6-1, 2-0) as the Hornets defeated Buckeye Trail (3-4, 0-1) on the road in an IVC North game. Witherow was 15-of-23 passing for 170 yards with no interceptions.

    Roy Simmons and Rodney Smith caught one touchdown each for Malvern. Simmons led the Hornets with 76 yards on eight catches.

    Drake Hutchison also ran for a touchdown for Malvern. Hutchison carried 12 times for 87 yards.

    Drew McGlumphy threw two TD passes in the fourth quarter for Buckeye Trail. McGlumphy was 16-of-31 passing for 212 yards with three interceptions.

    In other Stark County-area high school football games

    Triway 28, Canton South 12

    CANTON TWP. —  Quarterback Brodee Beegle had a hand in both Canton South touchdowns in the Wildcats’ PAC-7 loss to Triway.

    Beegle had an 80-yard touchdown completion to Braylyn Terrell and a 13-yard TD run. He rushed for 101 yards on 18 carries.

    Xion Culver ran for 84 yards on 20 carries for the Wildcats.

    Ridgewood 35, Sandy Valley 9

    MAGNOLIA — Ridgewood opened up a 28-0 first half lead and beat Sandy Valley to remain unbeaten.

    The Cardinals’ only scoring came on Maddox McCort’s 33-yard field goal with three seconds left in the first half and Caleb Deubner’s 18-yard TD run with four seconds left in the game.

    St. Thomas Aquinas 28, Crestline 14

    LOUISVILLE — St. Thomas Aquinas snapped a 32-game losing streak with a victory at home over Crestline. No details were available on the game.

    East Canton 26, Strasburg 20

    STRASBURG — The Hornets improved to 2-5 with an IVC North win, evening their league record at 1-1. No details were available on the game.

    Carrollton 31, Alliance 21

    CARROLLTON — Alliance fell to Carrollton on the road in Eastern Buckeye Conference play. No details were available on the game.

    Salem 55, Minerva 0

    SALEM — Salem earned its 10th consecutive victory over Minerva on Friday in an Eastern Buckeye Conference game. No details were available on the game.

    Claymont 30, Tusky Valley 26

    ZOARVILLE — The Mustangs won their first game of the season, winning on the road in the IVC South. Tusky Valley drops to 2-5 overall, 0-2 in the league. No details were available on the game.
