    OHSAA boys golf | North Canton Hoover falls just short of reaching state tournament

    HINCKLEY — It was a tough day of near misses for the Hoover boys golf team in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I district tournament at Pine Hills. The Vikings finished one spot out of reaching the state tournament as a team and also had an individual fall short in a playoff for the final individual spot for state.

    Hoover placed fifth as a team with a score of 312. That was seven strokes behind Medina for the fourth and final qualifying spot to the state tournament. Hudson won the tournament with a 295, while Hoban was second with a 298 and University School was third with a 300.

    Hoover senior Daniel Gambone did not qualify individually despite shooting 73 to finish finish tied for seventh overall. Brecksville's Leo Carey also shot 73 and held off Gambone in a playoff to grab the final qualifying spot.

    Kent Roosevelt's Liam Curtis was medalist with a 67, while Revere's Tommy Kinder and St. Ignatius's Alexander Stiegele each shot 72 to advance as individuals.

    Jackson and Green also competed in the district tournament.

    Jackson was 13th overall (330) and Green was 14th (333). Jackson was led by junior Raffaele Scassa's 79. Junior Silas Kirkpatrick led Green with a 77. GlenOak freshman Eddie Karam competed as an individual and shot 80. McKinley junior Thomas Mankowski also competed as an individual and shot 81.
