LAKE TWP. − The Stark County Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at the United Methodist Church, 3088 State St. NW.

Carleton Young will present the program “Voices From the Attic: The Williamstown Boys in the Civil War.”

Young spent more than a decade researching a collection of two soldier brothers' Civil War-era letters that were discovered in his family's attic. Young visited battlefields and researched the two soldiers − members of the celebrated Vermont Brigade in the 6th Corps of the Army of the Potomac − as well as other people mentioned in the detailed letters.

In "Voices From the Attic: The Williamstown Boys in the Civil War," he tells the story of these two brothers who witnessed and made history by fighting in the Peninsula Campaign, then at South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Mine Run, the Bristoe Campaign, the Wilderness, Petersburg, and Cedar Creek.

Young has undergraduate degrees in economics and English, a master's degree in history, and a PhD in the history of education.. For 37 years, he taught high school AP American history in Pittsburgh. He has also taught classes as an adjunct professor at the Community College of Allegheny County, the University of Pittsburgh and Eastern Gateway Community College.
