PLAIN TOWNSHIP — Plain Local Schools has appointed Hannah Hooks as head coach of the GlenOak High School girls basketball team, the district announced in a release Thursday.

Hooks is being promoted from JV head coach to the varsity head coach to replace veteran coach Paul Wackerly , whom GlenOak let go last week after 10 seasons. Wackerly, with 526 career wins , guided the Golden Eagles to six straight district championship game appearances from 2017-22 and back-to-back state appearances in 2019 and '20.

Hooks, a 2015 graduate of Westerville North High School and a 2019 graduate of the University of Mount Union, is an eighth grade English language arts intervention specialist at Oakwood Middle School. She recently earned her master's degree from Mount Union, where she played basketball from 2015-17.

Among the accomplishments in her young coaching career, Hooks led her teams to three straight Federal League championships at the middle school level.

"I am overjoyed by the opportunity to coach GlenOak Girls Varsity Basketball," Hooks said in a release. "Stepping into this position is not something I take lightly, as I recognize the potential this program has and my role in cultivating a positive winning environment for these young ladies. I hope to one day have the success the coaches of the program before me had, but more importantly, I hope to positively impact the lives of my players in a way where they continue to take the lessons learned on the court and use them to lead meaningful lives off the court."

GlenOak is scheduled to open the season on Nov. 22 at Ellet.
