    Alliance Symphony Orchestra to present concert

    ALLIANCE – The Alliance Symphony Orchestra will present its fall concert at 3 p.m. Oct. 27 in Brush Performance Hall in the University of Mount Union’s Giese Center for the Performing Arts.

    Eric Benjamin, a music faculty member at Mount Union, will conduct the orchestra. The concert, titled “Autumn Awakening, will feature a variety of pieces meant to evoke the sounds and feelings of fall.

    Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors/veterans and free for all students. Student and child tickets must be ordered by phone or in person. Tickets are available at mountunion.edu/boxoffice or through the Mount Union Box Office at 330-821-2565. The box office will also open for ticket sales one hour before the performance.

    Author Carolyn Finney to visit Mount Union

    ALLIANCE – The Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center and University of Mount Union will host storyteller, author and cultural geographer Carolyn Finney for a free presentation and book signing at 11:15 a.m. Thursday in Brush Performance Hall of the Giese Center for the Performing Arts.

    Finney’s presentation will highlight the work of her first book “Black Faces, White Spaces: Reimagining the Relationship of African Americans to the Great Outdoors.”

    The Huston-Brumbaugh Nature Center, 16146 Daniel St. NE, Washington Township, also will host Finney for two additional events – at 6 p.m. Thursday for a campfire, dinner, casual conversation Q&A and book signing, and at 10:30 a.m. Friday for brunch, insights from her visit and book signing. These events are also free, but an RSVP is required by calling the Nature Center at 330-823-7487.

    Canal Fulton Public Library schedules events

    CANAL FULTON – The Canal Fulton Public Library, 154 Market St. NE, has scheduled the following events. To register or for more information, call 330-854-4148 or visit canalfultonlibrary.org.

    • Tuesday, 5:30 p.m., Teen Halloween Bash: Teens (grades 6-12) are invited to a themed bash that will include games, crafts, a zombie makeup station, themed treats and pizza. Registration is requested.
    • Wednesday, 6:30 p.m., Lincoln and Thanksgiving: President Abraham Lincoln, portrayed by Kevin J. Wood, will stop by the library in period dress to share the story of how our national, annual observance of the Thanksgiving holiday came to be established during his presidency. This formal program will be followed by a Q&A session. Registration is requested; stop by the Information Department or call the library at 330-854-4148 (option 3) to register.
    • Oct. 28, 6 p.m., NPS Ghost Stories: Cuyahoga Valley is one of over 420 National Park Service sites around the nation. Join a park ranger and actors to explore the national park through the telling of ghost stories.

    Music and dancing on Wednesday afternoons

    CANTON – A variety of music and dancing to a live band is available from 1:30 to 4 p.m. each Wednesday at the Polish American Citizens Club, 1605 Henry Ave. SW. The event is open to the public. Admission is $3, which includes snacks.

    Canton Palace Theatre to feature horror films

    CANTON – The 2024 Horror on the Big Screen film series, presented by the Canton Palace Theatre, will show the following films this week. Buy tickets at cantonpalacetheatre.org or at the door starting 30 minutes before show time.

    • Friday, 8 p.m. – “M3GAN”
    • Saturday – Hitchcock Double Feature: ”Rear Window” at 5:30 p.m. and “Psycho” at 8 p.m.
    • Oct. 31, 7:30 p.m. – “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” (prop bags and a costume contest)

    Concert features ‘Star Wars’ influences

    CANTON – The Canton Symphony Orchestra will present MasterWorks II: Star Wars and Its Influences concert at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Zimmermann Symphony Center, 2331 17th St. NW. The first half of the concert will feature music that inspired John Williams to create music for the movie “Star Wars.”

    The concert will include Kings Row Suite – (Erich Wolfgang Korngold), The Planets: Mars (Gustav Holst), Piano Concerto No. 2, 2nd movement (Camille Saint-Saën), The Transit of Venus (Nancy Bloomer Deussen), The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (Paul Dukas), and Star Wars Suite (John Williams).

    Escape room at Southgate library branch

    CANTON TWP. – The Stark County District Library’s Southgate Branch, 3205 Cleveland Ave. SW, will hold the Alice in Wonderland Escape Room from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Register at starklibrary.org or call the branch at 330-452-0665 to reserve a time slot. Families are welcome (younger children will need adult supervision).

    Stardust to present Addams Family murder mystery

    JACKSON TWP. – Stardust Dinner Theatre will present The Addams Family: A Murder Mystery at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 and 26 at La Pizzaria, 3656 Dressler Road NW.

    Come dressed as your favorite Addams Family character to win a prize. Seating is reserved, and reservations are required at eventbrite.com or by calling the box office at 330-327-2087. Tickets for dinner and the show are $42.50, or $52.50 for VIP seating. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is served at 7 p.m.

    Learn about Medicare

    NORTH CANTON – Medicare 101: A Beginner’s Guide will be presented from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the North Canton Public Library, 185 N. Main St., Meeting Room A.

    Jay Culler, a licensed sales agent representing multiple carriers specializing in Medicare, will help people aging into 65 and becoming Medicare eligible understand their options and feel confident about choosing coverage based on their needs.     Virtual author talk Tuesday

    NORTH CANTON – The North Canton Public Library will offer a virtual author talk at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Lori Gottlieb, psychotherapist and author of “Maybe You Should Talk to Someone.” Register for this virtual author talk at https://libraryc.org/ncantonlibrary/58620.

    Raptor Hollow Movie Night

    WASHINGTON TWP. – Raptor Hollow Movie Night will be at Raptor Hallow Sanctuary's amphitheater, 11929 Beech St. NE, from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

    Doors will open at 5 p.m. so guests can explore Raptor Hallow's grounds and settle into their seats. At 5:30 p.m., Raptor Hallow's trainers will join guests in the amphitheater and introduce a few owl ambassadors. The owl-themed movie will begin shortly after the owl meet and greet, and concessions will be served throughout the event.

    Adult tickets are $10, and tickets for children 13 years and younger are $5. For tickets and more information, visit raptorhallow.org. Each ticket includes access to Raptor Hallow's grounds prior to the movie, an owl meet and greet, and a bag of popcorn. The gift shop will also be open. Bench seating is available, but guests are also welcome to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.

    AEP Ohio Residential Focus Group

    Clean Fuels Ohio is hosting an upcoming virtual focus group from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23 for residential customers in Canton about AEP Ohio's special plug-in electric vehicle rate program.

    This rate is available for residential customers who own, or are interested in owning/leasing, an EV and elect to join the program.

    the fact that they are not showing the movie Halloween on Halloween weekend makes no sense at all.
