ROCKINGHAM — All of Richmond Senior High School’s spring sports teams will face competition this week.

    Baseball enters non-conference series

The Raiders (10-7) and head coach Eric Brown will take a break from Sandhills Athletic Conference action and play a two-game set with South Mecklenburg High School (14-3).

Richmond will travel to South Meck Tuesday (6:45 p.m.) and host the Sabres Friday (7 p.m.).

Brown said the team “may also try to make up” a rainout with SAC opponent Union Pines High School, which was rained out before spring break.

Softball with busy three game week

Starting Monday, the Lady Raider softball team (6-6, 5-3 SAC) will begin its final multi-game week of the regular season.

A road game at Southern Lee High School (6-7, 3-5 SAC) Monday (6 p.m.), will be followed by one home game and another away game.

Tuesday will see the Lady Raiders host Union Pines High School (10-4, 6-1 SAC) at 7 p.m. and hit the road to Lee County High School (4-8, 3-5 SAC) Friday at 6 p.m.

Soccer readies for three more matches

Playing a trio of conference matches last week, the Lady Raiders (7-4-2, 3-3 SAC) will sandwich two more SAC contests around a non-conference match.

Starting the week Tuesday at home, and ending it Friday on the road, Richmond will face its two 4A conference foes. Up first will be Pinecrest High School (5-6, 3-2) and then Hoke County High School (3-6-2, 1-2 SAC).

The Lady Raiders will celebrate their seniors on senior night Wednesday against non-conference Cape Fear High School (9-3-1). All three matches will start at 7 p.m.

Tennis set for two conference matches

In a season marred by schedule changes and weather postponements, the Richmond Raider tennis team (2-3, 2-3 SAC) hopes to get two more SAC contests in this week.

Playing Tuesday and Wednesday, Richmond will play at Lee County and host Hoke County. Both events will see singles matches begin at 4 p.m.

    Golf returns at Puppy Creek

The Richmond boys golf team will return to the course this week after the solar eclipse postponed their match last week.

Bayonet at Puppy Creek in Raeford will be the site of the SAC’s first 18-hole golf match this spring. Golfers will begin teeing off at 2 p.m.

Track and field teams host third meet of season

The Richmond Senior High School boys and girls track and field teams, both coming off strong outings over the weekend at the Kathy McMillan Invitational, will get one more chance to compete in front of their home crown this season.

On Thursday, the Raiders and Lady Raiders will host Union Pines and Scotland high schools. Events will start at 5 p.m.
