Raiders also place 2nd in regular-season finale

ROCKINGHAM — As a final tune-up for this week’s conference championship, the Richmond Senior High School boys track and field team closed the regular season Thursday.
Richmond locked in 58 points in the Sandhills Athletic Conference meet, trailing only Union Pines High School (71 points).
Scotland High School managed 35 points for third place, while non-conference participant Father Vincent Capodanno High School scored 2 points.
The Raiders won five events (5 points each), brought in six second-place results (3 points each), added five third-place finishes (2 points each) and rounded out their scoring with five fourth-place marks (1 point each).
Richmond’s relay teams showed out and secured three wins, while the other two victories came in a sprinting event and a jumping event.
Keonta Pegues (100-meter dash) and Tyrene McKenzie (triple jump) both won those events. Pegues cruised to a season-best time of 10.66 seconds, while McKenzie won the triple jump by over four feet (41 feet, 5 inches).
The 4×200-meter, the 4×400-meter and 4×800-meter relay teams also placed atop the time sheet. Those respective times were 1:31.00, 3:39.00 and 9:38.05, with the first two being season-best times by the Raiders.
Richmond used five individual events and one more relay race to combine for 18 points with second-place finishes.
McKenzie placed second in the long jump (20 feet, 2 inches), while Domonic Tillman recorded a pair of runner-up placements. He set a season-best mark in the triple jump (37 feet, 2 inches) and ran the 110-meter hurdles in 16.23 seconds.
Amer Morrison also had a season-best time in the open 400-meter dash, clocking in at 53.33 seconds. Jordan Hamilton threw his way to a second-place distance in the discus (105 feet, 2 inches).
The Raiders’ 4×100-meter relay team passed the baton around the track in 44.75 seconds.
Jyneil Scott (100-meter dash), Jayden Hamilton (200-meter dash), Nyjier Allen (400-meter dash), James Coicou (1600-meter run) and Laurence Williams (discus) each collected two points with one third-place result.
Posting season-beset times were Scott (11.28 seconds), Hamilton (22.90 seconds) and Allen (53.60 seconds). Coicou clocked in on the mile run in 5:32.52, while Williams threw the discus 103 feet, 10 inches.
Deshaun Ingram also had two points, combining a pair of fourth-place times in sprints. He ran the 100-meter dash in 11.33 seconds and the 200-meter dash 23.37 seconds, both personal best times this spring.
Hayden Smith (1600-meter run, 5:55.24) and Konner Gardner (300-meter hurdles 50.13 seconds) each finished fourth.
Rounding out Richmond’s scoring was Tillman in the long jump (19 feet, 10 inches). That distance and Gardner’s time were season-bests.
The Raiders will compete in the SAC championship meet Friday. It will be held at Pinecrest High School and begin events at 2 p.m.
