CAMERON — The Richmond Senior High School girls soccer team wasn’t able to keep pace with the Sandhills Athletic Conference leader Tuesday.

Playing their first of three matches in four days, the Lady Raiders were shutout 6-0 on the road at Union Pines High School.

Over their past four matches, the Lady Raiders have lost three of them and tied one.

In what was the second regular-season meeting between the two teams, the Lady Vikings (11-3-1, 8-1 SAC) netted a trio of goals in each half.

With Richmond currently fourth in the SAC standings, head coach Chris Larsen said the team will regroup and try to pick up wins in its two remaining matches this week.

Now 7-7-3 and 3-5-1 in conference, the Lady Raiders will break from conference play and travel to non-conference Purnell Swett High School (14-1) Wednesday. The opening kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Richmond’s final match of the week is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. at home against SAC opponent Lee County High School.

JV Lady Raiders win penultimate match

The Richmond junior varsity girls soccer team claimed a 1-0 win over Union Pines Tuesday.

Scoreless at the half, freshman Addison Smith scored the match’s only goal, her first of the season.

“We played kind of sluggish,” head coach Bennie Howard said. “We were fortunate enough to put one in the back of the net midway through the second half.

“We have Purnell Swett (Wednesday), which will bring our season to an end. Hopefully we can finish strong.”

The JV Lady Raiders (6-2-1, 2-2-1 SAC) will also play at Purnell Swett Wednesday, starting at 5:15 p.m.
