OBITUARY: Arthur Lee Baxley Jr.

Arthur Lee Baxley Jr., 66, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, at FirstHealth Hospice House in West End.

He was born March 27, 1958, in Richmond County, the only son of the late Arthur Lee “Shorty” Baxley and Sara White Lee Baxley.

He was the grandson of William Allen Baxley and Lena Pearl McPherson of Roberdel Community and James Fleet Lee and Ethel Gaddy Lee of Burnsville Community in Anson County.

Lee was a graduate of Richmond Senior High School, Class of 1976. And then he went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with a BA in History in 1980. He was employed for 30 years with the Employment Security Commission until his retirement.

He was an avid Carolina Tar Heel fan and loved to dabble in the stock market. Lee was also a history buff, and which his primary interest spanned from American history and Southern culture to family genealogy.

The family will have a private service in honor of Lee at a later date.

Lee is survived by his cousin ,Matt Dennis and wife, Michelle, of Norwood, and their daughter, LeeAnn Dennis.
