    HAMLET — Award-winning country music group Diamond Rio kicked of the 2024-2025 Performing Arts Series at Cole Auditorium Friday evening.

    The band, founded in 1982, catapulted to fame in 1991 with the release of their first hit single, “Meet in the Middle.”

    Other songs on the set list for the night featured several other chart-toppers like “Norma Jean Riley,” “Mirror Mirror,” and “Mama Don’t Forget to Pray for Me.” The band also performed a classic rock-bluegrass medley including “Layla,” “Walk This Way,” “Carry On Wayward Son” and “Born to Be Wild.”

    The series, sponsored this year by the Richmond County Tourism Development Authority, includes the following performances this season:

    • Dec. 18 – “A Christmas Carol” (musical)
    • Jan. 18 – Rumors – Fleetwood Mac tribute band
    • March 28 – “The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System” – TheaterWorksUSA
    • April 15 – Uptown – tribute to Motown, soul and R&B
    • June 17 – Charlotte Symphony Orchestra
