    Raiders drop non-conference match at West Cabarrus

    CONCORD — Taking a break from Sandhills Athletic Conference action Monday, the Richmond Senior High School boys’ soccer team suffered a loss on the road.

    A close match through the first half came undone for the Raiders at non-conference West Cabarrus High School.

    Down one goal at the break, Richmond ended in a 4-0 defeat.

    West Cabarrus (8-11-2) scored its first goal in the 21st minute against senior goalkeeper Adrian Padron.

    In the second half, the Wolverines scored two more goals against Padron in the 52nd and 53rd minutes to go up by a trio of goals.

    Freshman keeper Jake Gardner entered the match and played the remaining minutes. West Cabarrus tallied one more score in the 72nd minute.

    Richmond (4-13-2, 3-6-1 Sandhills Athletic Conference) travels to Scotland High School (2-11-2, 0-11 SAC) Wednesday. The match will start at 7 p.m.

    JV Raiders also fall

    The Richmond junior varsity soccer teams also came up short in its match at West Cabarrus Monday.

    Following a controversial goal, the JV Raiders lost 1-0.

    Now 8-7-3 overall, the JV Raiders will have off until their season finale next Monday at Hoke County High School. That match will begin at 5 p.m.
