PHOTOS: Erik Hawks returns to Hamlet’s Boxcar Concert Series

HAMLET — Richmond County native Erik Hawks returned home Friday to close out the 2024 season of the Boxcar Concert Series.

Health issues prevented the Hard Luck band from backing him for the Boxcar show, but he was joined on stage by Andrew Tatum playing lead guitar.

Hawks, who grew up in Roberdel, graduated from Richmond Senior High School in 2006. He was named Male Performer of the Year in the 2024 Carolina Country Music Awards. He had also been nominated for Songwriter of the Year and Single of the Year for his tune “End of My Rope.”

That was one of several original songs mixed in with a set list of country music covers. Other singles penned by Hawks and performed at the show were “Notebooks,” which references Bear Branch Road, and “Tracing Your Tattoos.”

The Hard Luck Band and Tatum were on stage for Hawks’ performance Saturday at the Seaboard Festival. The RO will have photos from that show later.

The free Boxcar Concert Series has wrapped its third consecutive year, featuring several local bands playing a variety of music.

The September show was canceled due to Hurricane Helene.
