The Roanoke Region Chapter of Wild Ones has announce that it won the Community Growth Challenge among all new (seedling) chapters of Wild Ones across the country, according to an announcement by the Wild Ones national organization.

In just six months, the Chapter has grown to 56 members following its first meeting in March 2024. Wild Ones chapters are a space for people to gather to learn about landscaping with native plants, why it’s important to reintroduce native plants into public
and private gardens, and how to go about doing it. Learn more at roanokeregion.wildones.org

The Chapter meets the second Thursday of each month at Christ Lutheran Church, 2011 Brandon Ave., Roanoke. The Chapter has presented programs on creating beautiful, biodiverse gardens of native plants, the research behind the effects of habitat loss, and has
toured local native plant gardens. Future programs in the works: Native Seed propagation; Southern Grasslands; Understanding Soil, Invasive Plant Identification and Control; Native Trees; Seasonal Care of Native Plants; and many more.

Wild Ones is a national nonprofit organization that advocates for the use of native plants in landscaping to combat the loss of biodiversity. With over 120 local chapters and more than 10,000 members, Wild Ones provides education, resources, and support to
help individuals and communities make environmentally beneficial choices for their local ecosystems. Learn more at wildones.org.
