Restoration Housing is has announced the launch of its Preserve Campaign – Preserving History, Serving Community, presented by Pinnacle Financial Partners, during its 10th anniversary year.

A 10-minute video celebrates this momentous milestone by capturing the people and projects that have made Restoration Housing what it is today. Created by Emmy-winning investigative producer Asa Eslocker of Renaissance Planning in coordination with Firefli Media, the video tells the story of Restoration Housing through the lens of our staff (Isabel Thornton, Executive Director), residents (Passion and Cachet), contractor (Chad Brown, Square One Inc.), and community leaders (Vice Mayor Joe Cobb and Dr. Kimberly Simcox).

The film share’s an uplifting and intimate look at how Restoration Housing evolved, the complexities of our projects, and the people we serve through the perpetual management and stewardship of our properties.

Formed in 2014, Restoration Housing is a community-based, nonprofit developer focusing on affordable rental properties through the preservation of historic properties. At the core of everything Restoration Housing does is the belief that all people, regardless of circumstance, deserve to live in strong, healthy communities and dignified housing – the catalyst being the reinvestment in our historic built environment.

Restoration Housing’s main objective is to help low to moderate income adults provide safe, secure, and comfortable homes for themselves and for their dependents at an affordable rent. To date, Restoration Housing has restored seven properties with one under construction and two in the pipeline. This has resulted in $2,812,630 invested into under resourced communities.

Planned projects under construction and in the pipeline will more than double this investment and create an inpatient treatment facility serving up to 64 pregnant and post-partum women with substance use disorder and infants annually (planned for completion in early 2025); 15 units of affordable elderly housing serving 15 to 30 individuals (planned for completion in late 2025), and two Permanent Supportive Housing units serving formerly homeless individuals (planned for completion in Spring of 2026).

John Cornthwait, President and COO of Firefli as well as Vice President of Restoration Housing’s Board of Directors said, “Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how Restoration Housing transforms forgotten spaces into homes that provide stability and hope for so many. Reaching this ten-year milestone reflects not just the preservation of historic properties, but also the investment in people and communities. I’m proud to support this campaign and look forward to continuing this important work as we provide safe, dignified housing for those who need it most.”

The campaign launches September 19 with a full-length video and runs through October 17. For everything Preserve Campaign and to view the video, please visit: www.restorationhousing.org/preserve

Lastly, no incentives to allow homeowners to mitigate housing needs forgetting that a community of homeowners in the old N.E. supplemented their income by rents derived from the duplexes common in that area. There was a racial component then in which services (water/sewer/street maintenance/economic opportunities) were not afforded to the homeowners. The claim by the council to allow the new multi-dwellings: to fix racism. The city council proclaimed the need was 3000 units. There's clearly another motive here.

Sep 16th Cobb and other members followed voted yes to allow without notice for capitalized investments of mult-dwelling units onto single family lots. Using unverified requirements (3000 projected needed), ignoring that blighted neighborhoods are caused by economics and that multi-units dwellings never provide the level of low income rentals. The plan to allow multi-unit dwellings doesn't consider properties that can allow low profile units with off street parking nor does it consider ADU using scales of economy/cost/lot size.
