“They Are Going To Rebuild” / Youngkin Spends Several Days Assessing Storm Damage

Last week, Governor Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin spent several days in Southwest Virginia assessing the storm damage caused by Hurricane Helene. Governor Youngkin emphasized the Commonwealth’s commitment to supporting the affected communities in their recovery efforts, including announcing that President Biden had granted Virginia’s request for an expedited Federal Major Disaster Declaration due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene.

As the recovery process begins, Virginians in need can go to VAemergency.gov or dial 211 for help. At the state and local level, Governor Youngkin remains continually engaged to ensure Virginians get the support and help that they need in the aftermath of this powerful storm.

Additionally, Governor Youngkin has issued Executive Order 38 , which directs the Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security to establish an Office of First Responder Wellness at the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to support the emotional, physical, and overall personal wellness of first responders in the Commonwealth.
