Early voting begins Wednesday and runs through Feb. 27, with two of the five local races contested on the March 5 primary ballot.
Aside from being the local primary election, March 5 is also Tennessee’s presidential primary election.
The Rogersville early voting location is at the Hawkins County Courthouse M-F 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday Feb. 17 & 24 from 8 a.m. to noon.
The Church Hill early voting location is at the Clay Masonic Lodge, 111 Hamilton Street M-F 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday Feb. 17 & 24 8 a.m. to noon.
On the final day of early voting Feb. 27 both locations will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The deadline to request Absentee Ballots has also been set for Feb. 27.
The Hawkins County Election Commission is located at 110 E Main St., Room 301 Rogersville. Voters can drop off completed registration forms or register in person Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The two contested local races in the March 5 election are for District 2 Board of Education and District 7 County Commission. The other three races are already resolved barring a successful write-in campaign.
Property Assessor: Incumbent Republican Michael Gillespie is the only candidate qualified.
District 1 Board of Education: Independent Rolando “Roy” Benavides was the only candidate to qualify. Although he won’t be on the March 5 primary ballot, Benavides will be the lone candidate on the ballot for the Aug. 1 county general election. Current District 1 Board member McClure Boyd didn’t seek re-election.
District 2 Board of Education: Incumbent Chris Christian and challenger Brenda Gibson are seeking the Republican nomination. No Democrats are running.
District 5 Board of Education: Republican Beth Trent-Metz was the only candidate qualified. Current District 5 board member Jackie Charles didn’t seek re-election.
District 7 County Commission: Republicans Bobby Lee Jinks and Michael Herrell are seeking the Republican nomination. No Democrats are running.
