    RCS, CHMS compete at Liberty Bell

    JOHNSON CITY — Rogersville City School and Church Hill Middle School tuned up for next week’s sectional track and field meets with some stiff competition at the Liberty Bell Middle Invitational by Blackburn, Childers, Steagal held Thursday, April 18, at Science Hill High School.

    RCS had a solid night with a lot of personal bests in a competitive field that included a number of Class AA schools. The RCS girls finished seventh in the 16-team field; the RCS boys finished sixth. Church Hill got a pair of wins from Bryson Christian on its way to a 10th place finish in the boys’ standings.

    Top five individual and relay performances included:

    GIRLS

    RCS’ Emma Stipes was second in shot put (33-3.5) and second in discus (83-8).The RCS 4x400 relay of Madison Miller, Lilla Harrell, Harlen Hayes and Kenady Deal was third (4:38.72).RCS’ Elin Bryan was fourth in the 1600 (6:08.01).CHMS’ Kylee Capson was fifth in long jump (13-8).

    BOYS

    CHMS’ Bryson Christian won the 100 with a time of 11.73 and the 200 with a time of 24.20.RCS’ Evan Laster was second in the 110 hurdles (17.49).Brayden Brown was third in the 400 (57.09).Aaron Munsey-Cooke was fourth in shot (37-3) and fourth in discus (93-1).The RCS 4x400 relay of Laster, Zander Harris, Chance Pearson and Brown was fourth (4:08.19).The CHMS 4x100 relay team was fourth (50.73).CHMS’ Jansen Arnold was fifth in long jump (15-10).

    Athletes from Rogersville City, Bulls Gap, Rogersville Middle and Surgoinsville will compete in the TMSAA Class A sectional championships on Friday, May 3, at Volunteer High School. Gates will open at 3 p.m. with field events set to begin at 4 p.m. Church Hill will compete in the TMSAA Class AA sectional championships on Saturday, May 4, at Science Hill.
