GRAY — The Rogersville City School Warriors won a marathon 22-12 game against Fall Branch and then exploded past Sulphur Springs 17-7 on Saturday at Ridgeview to reach the Area 2-A baseball championship game and secure a berth in sectional tournament.

RCS is scheduled to battle host Ridgeview for the Area 2-A championship on Monday (April 29) at 5 p.m. Results of that game will not be available in time for Wednesday’s print edition. However, because three teams from each area advance, both teams will move on to the sectional tournament regardless of the outcome.

Sulphur Springs will battle Boones Creek, which lost to Ridgeview in the other area semifinal, in the consolation game at 5 p.m. for the league’s other spot in the sectional tournament.

In Saturday’s opening matchup, Landon Davis went 2 for 5 with four RBIs to lead the Warriors. Cruz McBrayer was 1 for 3 with a triple and three RBIS. Mason McAnally also drove in three runs. Conner Lyons and Cade Putnal each had two hits and two RBIs. Teegan LeRoy finished with three hits and scored four times.

Against Sulphur Springs, RCS racked up 14 hits and scored three runs in each of the first three innings to jump out to a 9-3 lead. Sulphur Springs closed the gap to 10-7 in the sixth, but RCS tacked on seven runs in the seventh to pull away for the win.

Putnal drove in five runs on four hits, including three doubles, to pace the Warriors.

In other Area 2-A tournament action, Rogersville Middle School saw its season come to an end. A discrepancy in the pitch count forced the RMS Warriors to forfeit their opening-round game against Surgoinsville, which advanced to face Ridgeview.

Top-seeded Ridgeview then ended the Eagles’ season before moving on to beat Boones Creek in the semifinal round. Boones Creek had advanced with a 13-6 win over Bulls Gap on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs, playing without eighth grader Leland Blair, struggled to score early and fell behind 7-0 after three innings. They finally broke through with a run in the fifth, but Boones Creek answered with three of their own. A four-run sixth for Bulls Gap wouldn’t be enough to dig out of the hole they’d created for themselves.

Liam Earle led Bulls Gap with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Parker Arnott had two hits and drove in a run. Grayson Hughes also had an RBI. Keegan Smith and Gabe Chandler each had one hit for Bulls Gap.

Saturday’s losses ended the season for Bulls Gap, RMS and Surgoinsville.

CHURCH HILL — The Church Hill Panthers gave it a good run but couldn’t keep pace with Indian Trail on Thursday (April 25), falling 5-2 in the Area 1-AA tournament opener. The loss ends the Panthers’ season.

Haiden Garst had two of CHMS’ five hits. Colton Huff, Hayden Grigsby and Graycen Feagins each had one. Eli Bowery scored and had an RBI.

Dane Blonski took the loss. He gave up four runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Carson Williams pitched three innings in relief, giving up one unearned run on two hits with three walks and a strikeout.
