    Rec League Notes: Kingsport hosting School’s (Almost) Out Skatepark Day

    KINGSPORT — Kingsport Parks and Recreation is teaming up with 21:12 Skateboarding and Lincoln Elementary School to host the first-ever School’s (Almost) Out Skatepark Day next week, encouraging families to bring their wheels and visit the popular destination for an afternoon of skateboarding, quad/inline skating, scootering, BMXing, children’s activities, and giveaways.

    The free event will take place Sunday, May 19, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Scott Adams Memorial Skatepark (2016 Brickyard Park Drive). The event will feature raffles, giveaways, activity booths, a paint your own grip tape and mini-board booth, a skateboarding demonstration from the Woodstock Skateshop riders, and other fun activities. Food trucks will also be on site.

    CHURCH HILL — Soccer signups are now underway for Church Hill Parks and Recreation league play. Signups are open to youth ages 4-6, 7-9 and 10-13.

    Summer of Fun starts Saturday with Touch a Truck

    ROGERSVILLE — The Rogersville Parks & Recreation Department’s Summer of Fun gets underway Saturday, May 18, with Touch a Truck from 10 a.m. until noon in the former UGO parking lot.

    Admission is free. There’ll be a food truck on site. Kids will be able to explore heavy equipment, emergency response vehicles and more. Learn more by calling 423-272-2545.

    Registration underway for Kingsport’s summer camp program

    KINGSPORT — Kingsport’s Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its annual summer camp program. In this program, elementary and middle school-aged kids participate in games, crafts, movie time, outdoor activities, sports and swimming trips throughout the summer.

    The summer camp program is open to children ages 6-12 and will be held at the V.O. Dobbins Sr., Center (301 Louis St.). Participants have to have completed kindergarten and turned 6 by Sept. 1.

    Summer camp runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day.

    There are three sessions:

    Session 1: May 28 to June 14

    Session 2: June 17 to July 5

    Session 3: July 8 to July 26

    Cost per session, per child is $100 for city residents and $120 for non-city residents. Breakfast and lunch are provided through the month of June. Children will need to pack a lunch and snack each day for the month of July.

    V.O. Dobbins has a maximum registration limit and availability cannot be guaranteed; participants are registered on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Rogersville offers two nights of small weight cardio

    ROGERSVILLE — Rogersville Parks and Recreation and ACE-certified trainer Neal Ewing are now offering MovingU Fitness small weight cardio classes on Monday and Thursday nights from 6-7 p.m. through June 3 at the Rogersville City Park stage.     ‘Champions of the Court’ underway in Kingsport

    KINGSPORT — Kingsport Parks and Recreation is hosting a Champions of the Court pickleball event, where players will compete to see who has the best paddle skills on the court.

    The event continues Mondays through June 17 with all games played at the Riverview Park Pickleball Courts from 6-8 p.m. each day. The cost is $5 per person per week, and the event is open to 20 players per week. Participants must be ages 14 and up.

    There are two divisions — one for beginner/intermediate players and the other for advanced players. Beginner/intermediate players will play on May 20 and June 10, while advanced players will play on June 3 and June 17.

    Players will be matched randomly and at the end of the event, the top two players from each division will face off on June 24 for the championship game. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.     Kingsport Aquatic Center has season passes available

    KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Aquatic Center has season passes available for purchase. The passes entitle visitors to use the indoor pools and outdoor water park during the summer season. The outdoor water park will open the weekend of May 18-19 and then be open daily from May 25 through Aug. 2. From Aug. 3 through Sept. 1, the outdoor water park will be open on the weekends with the last day of operation being Sept. 2.

    Season pass holders and Kingsport Aquatic Center members get early access to the outdoor water park 30 minutes before the regular opening time (except on Sundays). Season pass prices are $100 for the Lil’ Splasher (under 48”), $125 for the Bigger Splasher (48” and taller), and $100 for the Master Splasher (ages 55 and older). A Splash Pack (good for a four-person household) is $250 (with $15 added for each additional person within the same household).

    Outdoor water park hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday; and noon to 6 p.m., Sunday.

    Kingsport offers specialty camps

    KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is offering a series of specialty camps this summer for children and teenagers with each one focusing on a specific activity for an entire week.

    The five specialty camps being offered this summer include:

    E-Gaming Camp: (June 3- 7 from 9-11 a.m. at the V.O. Dobbins Sr Complex) — Campers will have the opportunity to play and be instructed to play a variety of games. Gamers will unite to hone their skills, connect with other gamers and dive into the world of electronic sports. Campers will have to bring their own console. Ages 7-14.

    Inclusive Camp: (June 10-14 from 9-11 a.m. at the V.O. Dobbins Sr Complex) — Throughout the week, campers will have the opportunity to engage in a wide range of inclusive and adaptive activities that cater to diverse interests and abilities, from arts and crafts to sports and music. Ages 14 and up.

    Volleyball Camp: (June 24-28 from 9-11 a.m. at the Lynn View Community Center) — Our volleyball camp is for young athletes to come together and learn the beginning and intermediate skills of volleyball. Throughout the week, campers will participate in a variety of drills, games and scrimmages that focus on developing essential volleyball skills. Ages 7-13.

    LEGO Camp: (July 8-12 from 9-11 a.m. at Borden Park) — Our LEGO specialty camp is where creativity, imagination and building come to life in a world of colorful bricks and endless possibilities. Throughout themed workshops, experiments, and challenges, campers will learn the fine art of building while having a blast with LEGO bricks. Participants will receive a LEGO set. Ages 6-12.

    Pickleball Camp: (July 8-12 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Riverview Park pickleball courts) — The pickleball camp offers participants the opportunity to refine their skills and enhance their understanding of the fundamentals of the sport. Participants will receive instruction on the fundamentals and mechanics of basic pickleball, tailored to their skill and experience. Ages 8-14.
