The Hawkins County 4-H Archery Club has been practicing each week in preparation for the State Contest in Cookeville.

The 4-Hers that have been working toward this contest are: Kahleya Shirkey, Cypress Griffith, Alyssa Jones, Mylia Law, Kyler Drinnon, Chadd Carpenter, Brie Rejdych, Alex Jones, Aaron Sims, Will Charles, and Dalton Collier.

4-Hers must understand the marksmanship, the safe and responsible use of firearms, the principles of hunting and archery, as well as being able to shoot on target.

During the state contest, 4-H members compete in a skill-a-thon contest in regards to equipment and compete with Genesis, Compound, and/or Recurve bows.

The senior high members who competed were: Kahleya, Alyssa, Cypress, and Chadd.

Cypress finished 17th in the skillathon contest while Chadd placed 6th in the Open Compound Division and 15th in the Compound Hunting Division.

In the junior high division, Kyler Drinnon, Alex Jones, and Mylia Law represented Hawkins County. These three competed in the Genesis division and did very well for their first competition.

Kyler placed 8th in the skillathon contest for junior high. Congratulations to all those who competed and the coaches and parents that helped in this program.
