ROGERSVILLE — Cherokee High School will honor the 1984, 1987, 1988 and 1989 football teams during the Chiefs’ home opener against David Crockett on Aug. 30. Former Chiefs from those teams who plan to attend the reunion should fill out the Google form available on the Cherokee High School website.

Players are invited to bring lawn chairs and sit near the field house to enjoy time together while the game is being played.

It’s the first of several special events planned at Mike Sivert Field in Big Red Valley for the 2024 football season. Other special events will include a Hall of Fame induction ceremony, homecoming, senior night and a special hometown heroes event for local first responders.

Little Chiefs Cheer Camp is Sept. 3

ROGERSVILLE — The Cherokee cheer team will host Little Chiefs Cheer Camp on Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 4-6:45 p.m. in the Cherokee High School gym.

A camp T-shirt, bow and pizza will be provided the night of camp.

Campers will perform with the Cheerin’ Chiefs during the third quarter of the Cherokee game against Greeneville on Friday, Sept. 6. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Students in Cherokee’s feeder schools should receive a form to register. The cost is $30 per camper before Aug. 28. After Aug. 28, the cost increases to $35 and requested T-shirt sizes may not be available.

The 2024 Cherokee cheerleaders include Halle Davenport, captain Ally Fairchild, captain Shay Hager, Ema Morgan, Maggie Stewart, captain Kynzie Turnmire, Audrey Vigil, Bella Catron, Aubrey Fleenor, Morgan Hager, Abby Johnson, Ailin DeJesus, Ella Huston, Grace Maguire, Kylie Rines, Annika Sexton, Lily Williams, Emily Anderson, Caroline Hicks, Ainsley Price, Kiley Sinkhorn and Peighton Swindler. The team is coached by Allie June McMakin and Mary Ellen Elkins.

Archie Par 3 is Aug. 30

CHURCH HILL — The Volunteer golf team’s fourth annual Par 3 golf tournament, known as “The Archie,” will be held Friday, Aug. 30, at Bays Mountain Golf Club.

Named after longtime educator and avid golfer Archie McMillan, the event is a fundraiser for the Falcons’ golf program. The cost is $50 per two-person team.

The first session will run from 1:30-3:30 p.m., the second from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and the third from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tee boxes will be at unique locations, with holes located in Archie’s favorite spots. The tournament features tough pin location, “because Archie loved to have pins in tough spots.”

To register, contact Jim Whalen at 423-914-5157 or Bays Mountain Golf Club at 423-256-3777. Hole sponsorships are also available.
