BULLS GAP — The Rogersville City School Warriors traveled to Bulls Gap on Thursday evening and returned home with a 38-6 win over the Bulldogs. It was RCS’ second straight road win of the young season.

The Bulldogs tried an onside kick to start the game, but RCS’ Zavion Goode covered the ball at midfield. The Warriors moved quickly, taking just four plays to reach the end zone. Eli Gonzalez scored from eight yards out and then added the PAT.

The Bulldogs got two first downs, behind the running of Cylan Lawless. Their drive ended when Demetrius Posey intercepted the Bulldogs first pass attempt and returned it to the Bulldog 30. On fourth-and-13, RCS quarterback Cade Putnal rambled for 33 yards and a touchdown. Putnal added the PAT, and the Warriors led 16-0.

The Bulldogs moved the ball again but fumbled, and RCS’ Hunter Brown recovered. Putnal had another long run and then found Conner Lyons with a touchdown pass. A Gonzalez PAT made the score 24-0 at halftime.

To start the second half, the Bulldogs lost another fumble at their 38. Putnal found Gonzalez with a shuffle-pass from the 14 for a score. Putnal passed to Aiden Ryans for the point after. On the next drive, RCS’ Luke Elkins recovered a Bulls Gap fumble at the Warriors 46. Gonzalez outran everyone, going 54 yards to score to grow the lead to 39-0.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard on the ensuing kickoff. Blake Arnott returned the kickoff 56 yards for a touchdown, making the final score 38-6.

“This was a good win. Bulls Gap came out ready to play. I knew they would be ready. I used to coach over here and every time we played the city school, we played our hardest,” RCS coach Forrest Gladson said. “Shawn and his assistants do a good job. I’m proud of our team. We’ve got a lot to work on still and to try to improve.”

This week, the Bulldogs (0-2) travel to Parrottsville (1-1) and the RCS Warriors (2-0) host North Greene at Cherokee. Both games are Thursday (Aug. 29) at 6 p.m.
