    SPORTS ROUNDUP: Lady Panthers shut out Lady Eagles

    TELFORD — Church Hill’s Ansley Glass turned a hat trick and the Lady Panthers shut out Grandview 3-0 on Tuesday in middle school girls’ soccer.

    Coach Mindy Shugart praised the team for the “total team effort.” She said the Lady Panthers communicated, created space, passed the ball, took hits and never backed down en route to the victory.

    HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS GIRLS SOCCER

    Greeneville 8, Volunteer 0

    GREENEVILLE — Greeneville got four goals from Abby Adkins and two from Vivian Kammerdiener to cruise to an 8-0 win over Volunteer to secure the top spot in the league standings.

    Kammerdiener scored Greeneville’s first and last goals. In between Angelyn Diaz scored on an assist by Kammerdiener. Then, Adkins reeled off four straight goals — three of them in short order to put the Lady Devils up 6-0 by halftime.

    Abigail Weems made it a 7-0 game early in the second half before Kammerdiener closed out the scoring with her second goal of the night.

    Grainger 5, Cherokee 0

    ROGERSVILLE — Meg Tanner scored three goals and Reese Dobbs and Sadie Cooper added one each as Grainger shut out Cherokee 5-0 in District 2-AA soccer action.

    GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

    Cherokee 3, Union County 0

    MAYNARDVILLE — Cherokee defeated Union County in straight sets (25-22, 25-12, 25-10) to remain unbeaten in Twin Lakes Conference volleyball action.

    The Lady Chiefs face their biggest test of the season in the next two matches: against Volunteer on Thursday (Sept. 5) in Rogersville and against Gibbs on Tuesday (Sept. 10) in Corryton.

    Volunteer 3, Claiborne 0

    CHURCH HILL — The Lady Falcons used a balanced attack to roll to a 3-0 win over Claiborne in Twin Lakes Conference volleyball action on Tuesday at The Nest. The Lady Falcons won 25-8, 25-3, 25-7.

    Kayla Capson had 10 kills, a dig and five aces. Adah Snodgrass had nine kills, nine digs, a block and an ace. Aliah Laster recorded six kills, two digs and two aces. Aubree Hall finished with four kills and a dig.

    Isabella Byington had two kills, three blocks and three digs. Chloe Redwine had 13 digs, two kills and an assist. Setter Lily Christian had 29 assists, one kill, three digs and a pair of aces.

    Defensive specialist Mattie Crowder had six digs and four service aces.

    Volunteer 3, Gate City 2

    GATE CITY — Adah Snodgrass racked up 25 kills to lead Volunteer to a 3-2 win in a grueling road match against Gate City on Wednesday. She also recorded nine digs and a block.

    Volunteer battled back from a 2-0 deficit to pull away from the Lady Devils. After falling 23-25 and 22-25 in the opening sets, Volunteer bounced back to win 25-10, 25-16 and 15-11 for the victory.

    Aubree Hall had nine kills, Kayla Capson seven, Aliah Laster six, and Lily Christian and Isabella Byington five each. Christian had 48 assists and 14 digs. Chloe Redwine had 36 digs, four assists and one kill. Lexi Hilton also had a kill and three digs. Mattie Crowder had eight digs and Karsyn Gibson four.

    Volunteer recorded 17 service aces in the match, with four by Snodgrass, three each by Capson, Laster and Crowder, and two each by Redwine and Christian.

    GOLF

    Cherokee 158, Grainger 172, Northview 195

    BEAN STATION — Cherokee outgunned Northview and Grainger for a pair of District 2-AA golf wins on Tuesday at McDonald Hills Golf Course.

    Carson Waters shot a 37 and Marshall Seal a 38 to lead Cherokee to a team total of 158.

    The Chiefs were scheduled to play Grainger and Morristown East on Thursday in a makeup match.

    Daniel Boone 107

    Happy Valley 108

    CHURCH HILL — Volunteer senior Zetta Smith shot a 45 and Addyson Fisher a 48 to lead the Lady Falcons to a sweep of Daniel Boone and Happy Valley on Wednesday at Bays Mountain Golf Club.

    Daniel Boone finished second with a 50 from Molly Green and a 57 from Natalie Wells. Happy Valley was just one stroke back of Boone with a 51 from Cayden Anderson and a 57 from Grace Hollifield.

    Other Lady Falcons competing in the match included Kathryn Geise (55), Josie Sewell (49) and Kinsley Cassidy (49).

    The Volunteer boys golf team lost by two strokes to Daniel Boone and defeated Happy Valley.

    Dawson Daniel shot a 36 to earn medalist honors and lead Boone (153) to the two-stroke win over the Falcons (155). Clay Rowland shot a 38 and Caeden Light a 39 to help Boone.

    Jackson McLain led Volunteer with a 37. Brock Collier and Cameron Cox each shot a 39. Austin Williams and Aiden Miller each shot a 40. Other players on the course for Volunteer included Kain Cornett (52), Colton Miller (40), Lucas Laughlin (40), Owen Miller (45), Jonah Williams (51), Charlie Barton (43), Parker Mowell (52), Coleton Bellamy (48) and Noah Lane (52).

    Volunteer will travel to the Bristol Country Club on Thursday to face Tennessee High and Dobyns-Bennett.
