Schedule alerts: Cherokee moves homecoming game to Saturday

ROGERSVILLE — The heavy rain, coupled with increased threat of flooding and high winds, that closed schools in Hawkins County on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27, has also forced some sports schedule changes.

The biggest change so far is Cherokee High School's decision to move the Chiefs' homecoming football game from Friday night to Saturday morning.

Volunteer will also play Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greeneville's Burley Stadium.

FRIDAY'S GAMES

Cherokee's homecoming football game against Seymour has been postponed until Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. The homecoming festivities will now take place before the game, beginning at 10:15 a.m. Kickoff is at 11 a.m. at Mike Sivert Field.The Volunteer at Greeneville Region 1-4A football game has been postponed until Saturday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. at Burley Stadium. It is Greeneville's homecoming game.

THURSDAY'S GAMES

The Surgoinsville Middle at Bulls Gap football game has been postponed until Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. Bulls Gap's eighth grade night will also be held that evening.The Cosby at Rogersville Middle School football game has been postponed until Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. RMS will also honor its eighth graders at the game.The Chuckey-Doak at Volunteer soccer game has been canceled. It will not be rescheduled.The Gibbs at Cherokee volleyball match has been postponed. The makeup date will be Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m.The Grainger at Volunteer volleyball match has been postponed. The makeup date will be Wednesday, Oct. 2.The Cherokee homecoming student kickball tournament and bonfire have been canceled for Thursday, Sept. 26. School officials hope to reschedule the events at a later date.There will be no afternoon activities or practices at Hawkins County Schools on Thursday, Sept. 26.All Rogersville Parks and Recreation flag football games scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26, have been canceled.
