Macy’s sets grand opening date for new small-format store in Sacramento area. What to expect

Elk Grove residents have long awaited the grand opening of Macy’s at the Laguna Crossroads shopping center.

They’ve seen the signs and last-minute designs as they peeked through the tinted glass windows, from time to time.

Now, according to the Macy’s website, a grand opening is set for Aug. 24.

Senior director and store manager Marcia Philemon anticipates shoppers eagerly lined up outside Macy’s Laguna Crossroads, a 31,000-square-foot space, for the ceremonial ribbon-cutting event which will include music, local vendors and giveaways for attendees while they shop.

Macy’s newest location at 7621 Laguna Blvd. in Elk Grove will be the fifth by the department store chain to open in the Sacramento region, joining Arden Fair Mall (1996), Downtown Commons (formerly K Street Mall) in downtown Sacramento (1963), Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights (1996) and the Westfield Galleria at Roseville (2000). Also in Roseville is the Macy’s Furniture and Mattress Gallery.

Philemon said in an emailed statement to The Sacramento Bee that she’s excited to open the Elk Grove location and bring top brands and the latest trends to the area.

“They are strategically placed in high traffic shopping centers to meet our customers where they are choosing to shop,” Philemon said. “This small format store was designed to keep up with our customer demands. The launch of Macy’s Laguna Crossroads in Elk Grove adds additional Macy’s presence to the Sacramento area. We’re excited about the value and enhanced shopping experience Macy’s will bring to new and existing customers within the metro Sacramento community.”

At 31,000 square feet, the store is much smaller than many of its in-mall counterparts.

The small format store concept, Philemon explained, offers a convenient and distinct shopping experience in an open environment that is roughly one-fifth the size of the full-line stores.

The store will collaborate with local businesses to create pop-up shops and events that are niche to customers’ preferences, Macy’s said in a news release.

Macy’s Elk Grove location will provide a variety of shopping options such as an assortment of men’s, women’s and kids’ fashion, beauty products, luxury fragrances and various knick-knacks.

The store carries brands such as Donna Karan, Levi’s, MAC, and Calvin Klein, as well as Macy’s exclusive brands like INC, Bar III, On 34th and kid’s clothing line Epic Threads.

Customers can enjoy all the benefits of the full-line Macy’s stores, including the “At Your Service” desk, which helps with bill payments, returns and exchanges, the news release said.

The Elk Grove location will have services for buy-online, pick-up-in-store, as well as curbside options for items purchased online .

The grand opening at Macy’s Laguna Crossroads will start at 9:45 a.m. The Elk Grove location will have normal business hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Philemon said customers will get a chance to win reward cards. It’ll be one reward card per customer, while supplies last.
