Containment of the Crozier Fire reached 91% on Thursday afternoon and has remained at that level into Friday morning, according to Cal Fire. The fire has been burning for 10 days northeast of Placerville in El Dorado County.

The fire, which has burned about 1,938 acres, was “smoldering in rugged terrain” inside the fire perimeter, according to a Cal Fire status update report Friday. Fire crews worked to mitigate tree hazards on roads and increase the depth around the fire perimeter.

The evacuation order for the Crozier Fire was lifted Thursday afternoon, according to Cal Fire.

Authorities advised the public to exercise caution when traveling on Rock Creed Road into the Mosquito and Swansboro area. Parts of the El Dorado National Forest remain under a forest closure, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said.

All evacuation warnings were lifted around the Crozier Fire on Wednesday, but an evacuation order remained at the time around the footprint of the fire as firefighters worked to contain it.

The Crozier Fire started on Aug. 6 northwest of Slate Mountain. It grew to about 244 acres after the first few hours and subsequently tripled its size by the next morning. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Cal Fire.
