A Sacramento-area council has a $5M transportation grant. What ‘zones’ are in need of help?

The Sacramento Area Council of Governments is looking for community input to identify areas most in need of transportation investment, the council announced Monday.

The input process involves an online public survey , which will guide the council’s effort to establish 15 “mobility zones” in neighborhoods throughout El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Yolo, Yuba and Sutter counties. The survey will be open until Aug. 31.

The council will prioritize these zones for investment projects such as transit, bike share or access to zero-emissions vehicles, project manager Kathleen Hanley said in a press release.

Led jointly by the council and community nonprofit Civic Thread, the mobility zones project is funded by a $5 million grant to the Sacramento Area Council of Governments from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity program.

The project is guided by five community committees made up of local advocates and organizers, one municipal committee made up of municipal government staff and one technical committee, according to the mobility zones website .
