Sacramento State fees to increase in 2025. CSU also raised tuition prices for students

Sacramento State will increase its mandatory student fees over a three year period after President Luke Wood approved recommendations by the university’s student fee advisory committee. All fees increases will roll out over a three year period beginning next fall, in 2025.

This change would make fees more than $1,475, which is on top of the university’s $3,000 tuition . Undergraduate students currently pay $967 in fees, according to Sacramento State’s registration fees page.

In a campus wide email sent Monday, Wood announced the approval and implementation of fees for student health services, intercollegiate athletics, recreational sports and instruction-related activities.

California State Universities campuses are known to be a more affordable option for higher education in the state, with tuition rates cheaper than its University of California counterpart. But even so, students have expressed concerns about the accessibility of an education at Sacramento State.

Over the summer, Sacramento State students told The Sacramento Bee they believed the fee increase would add a financial burden to university costs. The California State University is also proceeding with a 34% tuition increase.

“The point was made very clear with the tuition increase, students don’t have that money,” student Michael Lee-Chang told The Bee in August .

Sacramento State students have continuously voiced concerns at various university town halls, forums and on social media. Students have said that college, and living in Sacramento where median monthly rent is more than $1,465, is already expensive enough.

Wood said these fee increases will support a “number of programs and services” at Sacramento State, like the campus’ cultural affinity centers.

“I did not make the decision to increase these fees lightly,” Wood said. “The increased revenues they generate will enable us to provide the services and programming students have demanded.”

Sacramento State will not proceed with a non-resident fee, which proposed that international and out-of-state students pay $500 per semester more than California resident students.

Students at Sacramento State will see fees increase by the following:

▪ Intercollegiate Athletics: $181 to $256

▪ Instructionally Related Activities: $8 to $310

▪ Recreational Sports: $19 to $90

▪ Student Health Services: $152 to $212
