A Winters man was arrested and charged this week in connection to severely injuring his 71-year-old mother and preventing her from calling for help after she denied him money, police said.

The victim, another Winters resident, said her 36-year-old son came into her bedroom at a home on Ramos Drive and snatched her purse to steal money, according to a news release from the Winters Police Department.

The mother confronted her son at which point police said he pushed her to the ground, slapped her and slammed her head into a wall. He’s also accused of taking her phone so she could not call 911.

Police said the victim arrived at a Vacaville hospital about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday with abrasions and contusions inflicted on her face, head, hands and knees. Her son, when he was arrested, was found with the victim’s purse, cell phone and credit cards, police said.

Prosecutors charged the 36-year-old man with four felony counts of abuse or endangering the health of a dependent adult, assault likely to produce great bodily injury, making threats with an intent to terrorize and preventing a victim by threat or force, according to Yolo Superior Court records.

The man was scheduled to be arraigned Friday. He was booked into Yolo County’s Monroe Detention Center.
