A pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday after authorities say he darted in front of a car along a busy Sacramento County roadway.

The California Highway Patrol’s North Sacramento said a man in his 60s died just before 8 p.m. after he was hit by a Honda driving southbound on Auburn Boulevard just south of Manzanita Avenue on the border of Carmichael, Foothill Farms and Citrus Heights.

Officer Justin Fetterly, a spokesman for agency, said the man was “running across the lanes, and ran directly in front of the vehicle,” which was driven by a man in his 70s. Fetterly said the motorist was “unable to react and could not avoid colliding into the pedestrian,” who was pronounced dead at the scene from trauma to his head and body.

The driver and his passenger, a woman in her 70s, were not injured and cooperated with CHP investigators at the scene.

The identity of the pedestrian was expected to be announced by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after relatives are notified of his death.
