Six people escaped an overturned fishing boat to safety, but a seventh remains missing, Oregon officials reported.

A caller reported a capsized boat on the Columbia River near the mouth of the White Salmon River at 11:39 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Rescuers pulled six people from the water and brought them to shore, deputies said. Two were taken to a hospital.

A seventh person remains missing, deputies said.

The Hood River Police Department identified the missing person as the captain of the 24-foot fishing guide boat, KPTV reported.

An investigation into the accident and search for the missing person continues, deputies said.

The search involves personnel from several agencies along with civilian vessels and a helicopter, deputies said.

The section of the river where the incident happened is about a 65-mile drive east from Portland.
