A man was arrested in his roommate’s death that was initially thought to be a drug overdose, Colorado police say.

After getting a 911 call about a potential drug overdose , Denver police said officers responded to a residence at about 10:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, according to a news release from the department shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Despite first responders’ efforts to save the man, he was pronounced dead on scene, police said.

When the medical examiner performed an autopsy on the man’s body the next day, it showed the man was injured, police said. He suffered “significant trauma,” including internal injuries, according to police.

An investigation led police to arrest the man’s 28-year-old roommate on possible second-degree murder and assault charges, police said.

McClatchy News reached out to the Denver District Attorney’s Office and is awaiting a response on formal charges.

An investigation into the man’s death is ongoing, police said, adding that the medical examiner’s office will release his identity and manner of death.
